Leviticus
6:14-18 are instructions given to the priest specifically on the grain offering
that was part of the perpetual offering described in Exodus 29:38-46. It is not
the same grain offering that the Israelites would bring to offer to God. The
first thing a priest must do is described in verse 15. It says, “Then one of
them (the priests) shall lift up from it a handful of the fine flour
of the grain offering, with its oil and all the incense that is on the
grain offering, and he shall offer it up in smoke on the
altar, a soothing aroma, as its memorial offering to the Lord.” The
remainder of this offering was to be eaten by Aaron and his sons. They
were made into unleavened cakes and be eaten within the Holy place. As leaven
speaks of sin and corruption, it was left out of the ingredients.
The
emphasis in this portion of the scriptures in on holiness. No leaven was to be
mixed into the grain offering. It was to be eaten in the Holy place. In fact,
verse 17 says this unleavened baked cake was most holy. God is demanding
dedication and consecration to Him daily. There is nothing in our life that did
not come from God. Yet there are things we dedicate to God and they must be
treated with sacredness. We set them apart for God alone. We must only give to
God our best and not one that even has a tint of sin. God demands it and
deserves it!
