Isaiah acknowledged the uprightness of the way of the Lord. He was certain that the path God had laid for the upright to walk would not be misleading but smooth. There would be no trap or ensnarement. God would never expect us to act in ways that would contradict His character. He only expects us to live within His defined standards. Here Isaiah prayed addressing God the Upright One to make the way of the righteous level.
In verse 8, we see two reasons why the righteous would gladly accept the way of the LORD. Firstly it would be the best way they could express trust in Him. Those who have placed their trust in God would not act in ways that would be incongruent with the desire of God. Secondly, the righteous’ deepest desire would be to live for the honor and reputation of God. They would not want to bring reproach to His name.
In verse 9, Isaiah expressed his passionate longing for God by day
and by night. He yearned and sought God diligently. In his personal and passionate
search for God, he felt a need for the larger society to be touched by God as
well. He was sure that God’s dealing could be a means of instructing
righteousness. But he also realized that evil was something that 0ne had to contend
with. And it is something that would not be easily overcome. The wicked would
not be able to discern the dealings of God and hence could not sense the grace
shown toward them. However, he was sure, one day all would not only see God’s
zeal for the righteous but also His wrath released on the unrighteous.
As a member of the company of the redeemed, like Isaiah, we must yearn
for God and to seek Him diligently. Let us truly express a life of trust in the
way we conduct our life. And may our desire be one that will always seek to
live for His honor and glory. Amen!
