Ezekiel 7:23-27 – Give Jehovah God our total allegiance!

The ruin of Jerusalem had been appointed. This last stanza, from verses 23-27 of Ezekiel 7, portrays the city in mayhem. Chaos had seized the city. It was filled with bloodshed and violence. The call to prepare the chain was an announcement of the coming siege. Invaders from the nations, especially the Chaldean, were summoned to possess the house. God was determined to put an end to the pride of Jerusalem and to desecrate her abused sanctuaries.

When terror struck, peace would not be found. There would be no place they could go to seek it. Relentlessly, calamity upon calamity would rain and rumours upon rumours would pile. Not a single stratum of the society could be excluded. No counsel was available. The people whom they usually go to for guidance and direction could offer nothing. Prophets would have no vision to offer. Likewise, the priests had nothing to offer from the law they taught, and elders, the wise men would have no counsel to offer.

Likewise, despairing political leaders, the kings, and princes would be in desperate mourning. Everyone in the land would be petrified and trembling in fear. Whatever punishment they would experience would be the appropriate dealing. They would be judged according to their conduct. The same measure they had meted out would be the same measure they would receive. From what they had experienced the people would come to the realization that Yahweh alone was the sovereign Lord.

In much the same way, all experiences we encounter have the same impact. To help us see and realize that Yahweh, the awesome Lord alone is sovereign. And He is not only sovereign but also just in all His dealings. And He alone possesses all power and might and is worthy of our worship and allegiance. He is all we need and all that we should want. Worship and serve Him alone!
