Isaiah 66:7-14 – Get ready for the impending revival

True worshippers are what God is after. He is looking for people who desire to come before Him humbly, submitting themselves to Him in worship. Such worshippers must learn to listen carefully to what He will say to them and then go out and do what they have heard.  Sadly, pseudo worshippers can also be found among those who will come to Him. They, on the other hand, will abuse worship, appearing sincere but harbor malicious intentions. For such people, a consequence awaits them. It is good to know, however, that nothing can thwart the advancement of God’s Kingdom. And the revival of the church is one great event awaiting to happen in the Kingdom of God. This is what Isaiah sees here prophetically long before the Lord Jesus Christ arrived at the scene.

Isaiah 66:7-14 is referring to the church. The prophet used the feminine pronoun “she”, and a mother giving birth without labor pain to point to the church. Prophetically, he is saying that through the church not only will one child but that a whole nation of spiritual babies will miraculously be birthed. Here he is referring to new believers whom the Gospel of Jesus Christ will bring into the Kingdom of God through the church. The two rhetorical questions the prophet asks in verse 9, tell us that God has engineered this to happen all along. He is tilling and preparing the condition so that the massive spiritual births would be brought about.

The first installment happened on the Day of Pentecost immediately following the crucifixion of Christ. The book of Acts described that on that one day 3,000 were added to the family of believers in God. Then 5,000 were brought in after the incident of the healing of the crippled man at Gate Beautiful. And down the years we have heard of revival where great droves of people had thronged the Kingdom of God. Yet whatever has taken place has not plumbed the depth of what God wants to do through the church in the last days. There is going to be a great awakening in the church, where the unspeakable joy will be a common phenomenon in the church.

In verses 10-14, prophetically Isaiah sees great things in store for the church, referred to here as Jerusalem. Great rejoicing in the Lord will be the experience for the believers. There they will be cherished and tenderly cared for, as a mother would care for her children. They will be satisfied with sustaining milk. Furthermore, the believers will be cradled like children in a mother’s lap. Isaiah pictures for us a scene of security and peace, and divine nourishment. In the church, believers will not only enjoy great peace but also spiritual nourishment. The people of God are promised a life of joy and spiritual prosperity. But those who oppose the progress of the church will be impoverished.

What God wants to do through the church requires faithful people committed to praying and be in readiness to act. The anticipated influx of new spiritual babies demands that we, the more mature believers, must be ready to take care of them. Are we getting ourselves spiritually ready to contain the revival? Let us build ourselves in Christ so that we can be ready to build those who will flood the church!
