This
grain offering is different from the one described in the early chapters of
Leviticus. It is also different from the continual or perpetual offering
described in Exodus 29:38-46. This offering was to be made to the Lord when Aaron
or any of his sons presented themselves to be ordained as the high priest.
Hence, it was in effect the high priest grain offering. Verse 23 tells us that
this offering was to be burnt entirely and none of it was to be eaten. Because
this was an offering for the high priest, he himself could not be both the one
presenting the offering and at the same time, the one mediating it. Hence, one
of his sons was to mediate it if Aaron was presenting the grain for his
consecration.
We note that the
offering the high priest made was to be burnt entirely and none of it should be
eaten. Why? That’s because he was symbolically being the mediator and was
bearing the sins of the people. Since he himself was not free from sin, this
system was imperfect and indicates the need for the coming of Christ to be the
perfect mediator. This is what Hebrews 7:27-28 tell us. It reveals that
Christ’s priesthood is more superior to the imperfect Aaronic priesthood.
Thankfully, we have Christ Jesus. We are grateful to God for giving Him to us.
He is the High Priest, who lives forever to make intercession for us. All glory
to our blessed Lord! With gratitude, let us only worship and serve the true God
who came in the name of the Lord!
